Part 3: The Eating Habits That Helped Me Lose Weight

Losing weight isn’t just about cutting calories or following the latest diet trend—it’s about building sustainable habits that fit into your lifestyle. After finding the right medical support to help manage my appetite and cravings, I needed an eating plan that worked for me long-term. The key to my success was a structured, simple approach that kept me satisfied while preventing overeating.

Just by making changes to my medical plan and eating habits, I lost 22 pounds in the first month. The combination of appetite control, structured meals, and mindful choices set me up for success early on, reinforcing the power of the right approach. By six months, I had lost over 75 pounds, proving that consistency and the right tools could make a dramatic impact on my health and well-being.

My Approach: Two-Factor Meals and Mindful Eating

I established a straightforward eating routine that helped me stay on track without feeling deprived. My meals were based on two core factors: balanced nutrition and portion control. Here’s how it worked:

1. Two Main Meals Per Day

Rather than eating three full meals, I found that two well-balanced meals were enough to keep me energized and satisfied throughout the day. These meals were high in lean protein, healthy fats, and fiber to ensure I stayed full longer. By keeping my meals simple and structured, I eliminated the constant decision-making that often led to unhealthy choices.

One of the biggest game-changers was using Factor, a meal prep service that took all the decision-making out of meal planning. With nutritious, portion-controlled meals, I removed the temptation to make impulsive food choices. It also saved me time, ensuring that I stayed on track even on my busiest days.

2. Protein Shake for Breakfast

Instead of a traditional breakfast, I started my day with a high-protein shake. This was a game-changer. It provided the nutrients I needed without triggering early-morning hunger spikes. The shake helped regulate my metabolism and prevented blood sugar crashes, which often lead to snacking.

3. Snacking Only on Vegetables

One of the most significant changes I made was limiting my snacking to vegetables. Instead of reaching for processed foods or sugary snacks, I kept fresh-cut cucumbers, bell peppers, and carrots on hand. This allowed me to snack mindfully, ensuring I wasn’t consuming unnecessary calories while still having something to munch on when needed.

4. Tracking Everything with MyFitnessPal

To stay accountable, I logged all of my meals and snacks using MyFitnessPal. Tracking my food intake helped me monitor portion sizes and macronutrient balance. It also gave me valuable insights into my eating habits, allowing me to make data-driven adjustments to stay on track with my weight loss goals.

Why This Approach Worked for Me

  • Eliminated Food Noise: By structuring my meals, I no longer obsessed over what to eat next. My body adapted to the routine, reducing cravings and unnecessary snacking.
  • Reduced Overeating: With two satisfying meals and a protein-packed start to my day, I naturally consumed fewer calories without feeling restricted.
  • Simplified My Choices: Using Factor for meal prep and MyFitnessPal for tracking took the guesswork out of eating, making it easier to stay consistent.
  • Kept Hunger in Check: The combination of lean protein, fiber, and healthy fats helped me feel full longer, reducing the temptation to binge eat.

Looking Ahead: Finding What Works for You

This approach worked for me, but every weight loss journey is unique. The key is to find a sustainable eating pattern that supports your goals while fitting into your lifestyle. Whether it’s intermittent fasting, mindful snacking, or meal prepping, creating a plan that works for you is essential to long-term success.
